Argos Selects MODA-EMâ„¢ for Advanced Manufacturing Processes
WAYNE, Pa. & RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. - MODA Technology Partners (MODA), a software company that provides mobile data acquisition solutions to the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry announced today that Argos Therapeutics has selected MODA-EM™ to automate environmental monitoring (EM) processes at their facility in Research Triangle Park, NC.
Argos, a privately held biotechnology company, is developing a new generation of personalized cancer and infectious disease therapeutics using the company’s “Arcelis” technology. Arcelis trains a patient’s immune system to recognize and attack the disease. The cornerstone of this technology involves the coupling of particular cells from an individual patient’s immune system, dendritic cells (“DCs”), with a sample of messenger RNA (“mRNA”) isolated from their disease (tumor in the case of cancer, pathogen in the case of infectious disease). This patient-specific treatment approach mounts a broad and potent immune system response tailored to that patient’s individual disease.
Patricia Whelton, Argos’ Director of Worldwide Manufacturing Operations, states “Because Argos’ clinical immunotherapy products are patient-specific, every production run is critical to maintain treatment during the course of a clinical trial. The MODA-EM system will play a pivotal role in ensuring that products are safe and free from environmental contaminants.”
Argos has both immediate and longer range objectives for their EM program. As Ms. Whelton explains, “Argos has selected the MODA-EM paperless system as a short term solution to reduce errors in transcription, missed samples and to expedite review of data, all of which will increase regulatory compliance and improve productivity. As a long term solution, the system will provide accurate trending of EM excursions over the product development cycle and within the context of the facility.”
“The Argos immunotherapy technology and manufacturing processes are exciting developments in disease treatment.” stated David Lipson, MODA’s CEO and Chairman. “We are proud to be working with innovative companies like Argos and we are confident that our MODA-EM solution will allow Argos to build and maintain an environmental monitoring program that is commensurate with the manufacture of their first-in-class therapies.”
